1. Meeting was called to order at 4:05 P.M. by PSE Mead Chapter President, Carrie Webbenhurst. Other Executive Board Members were Vice-President, Mary Duffey, Secretary Lehsley Whitman and Treasurer, Yolanda Dooley and Field Representative, Kasmir Zaratkiewicz. There were a total of 12 PSE Members in attendance.

2.  Yolanda Dooley gave the Treasury Report as follows:

            Savings:    $4,226.62

            Checking:  $1,595.52

            Total:         $5,822.14

Old Business:

3.  Carrie informed members about Michele Gerty’s operation that has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 22nd at Sacred Heart Hospital. A gift and card from our Chapter will be sent to her. According to Michele, if all goes well, they will be sending her home the following day. She asked to keep her in prayer.

4. Carrie showed us a formal “Thank You” letter from the Veterans Administration thanking our Chapter for sending them the handmade gifts and Christmas Cards.

5.  Our Chapter discussed continuing making gifts for Spokane Veterans as an on-going service project. Lynn gave us an option of making individual stockings for our next project. A motion from the floor was made to donate a hundred dollars from our PSE Chapter budget to help with the necessary materials and gifts for the upcoming project. The motion was moved and seconded.

6. The subject of having our Chapter Meetings at the District Office was brought up once more. Carrie said she contacted the District Office to reserve our meetings there for next year and the only day that was available to meet would be the first Tuesday of the month. Due to scheduling issues for some members, we voted to keep our meetings on the third Tuesday of the month and to keep them at Mt. Spokane High School. Yolanda said she will check to see if we could continue to reserve the Atrium for next year.

New Business:

7.  Carrie showed members an example of a new form that will be given to Classified Employees on request who feel they should be getting the Personal Care Stipend. This form was created to help the Stipend Committee resolve issues regarding the stipend on an individual bases. It was noted that anyone interested in receiving a form should contact Special Services.

8.  Carrie explained why the two Paraeducators who were originally with our bargaining group (PSE) will now be a member of MAOP. Nancy inquired what happened to their Paraeducator hours. In a review of their job duties, they had no Para hours within their work schedule, so an administration classification modification was done. It was determined that their duties were considered more administrative in nature since they have no supervisorial or instructional contact with students. A Letter of Agreement (LOA) was drawn up to be approved.

9.  A motion from the floor was made by a member to approve the LOA regarding the two Paraeducators leaving PSE to become members of MAOP. After discussion the motion was moved and seconded that the Paraeducators are no longer members of PSE. The LOA was accepted and approved.

10. Carrie reminded members of the Zone 2 meeting this Saturday. All members should go if they can. It will be held from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at 22300 E. Wellesley in Otis Orchards, WA in the East Valley School District’s Bus Barn. Please try to attend. RSVP Charlotte Shindler at [email protected]. Lunch will be provided.

11. Carrie stated that in the future, the Executive Board will meet to discuss L&M (Labor Management) issues before we have our meetings with the District to help us be more prepared.

12. Members were reminded that the training session with Ken Hoffman will be coming up next Wednesday, April 29th. Carrie stated that in the future she will initiate a cut-off for training programs.

New Business

13. There were two nominations for PSE Chapter President and Treasurer. Both were nominations to re-elect Carrie Webbenhurst for President and Yolanda Dooley for Treasurer. There were no other nominees.

11. Carrie asked our PSE Field Rep. Kasmir Zaratkiewicz, if he would give a training presentation on Grievances in September. He agreed to do it.

12. Kathy Cunningham reminded members “never to take work home from school, even if a teacher asks you too!”

13. The PSE End-Of-Year Party was discussed and May 19th or 26th are possible dates.  We are still looking into affordable places to have it.  The meeting was adjourned at 5:20PM. Our next meeting will be our End-of-Year Party. The time, date and place will be announced.

Respectfully Yours,

Lehsley Whitman

PSE Mead Chapter Secretary
